Croydex Grab Rails

ABS Grab ’N’ Grip rails (for example the 380mm, 485mm and 680mm models) have a textured grip surface moulded into the rail for extra purchase and are lightweight and cost effective. Stainless steel contemporary rails give a sleeker chrome look, stronger feel and excellent corrosion resistance for steamy bathrooms, and they’re available in straight, angled and fold‑away styles. If you want maximum grip for steadiness choose ABS; if you prefer a premium finish and long‑term durability go for stainless steel.

Hinged or fold‑away rails (including versions with a drop‑down leg) are ideal where you need occasional support but also clear access, such as beside a shower entrance or a toilet in a shared bathroom. You can fold them up to free space when not required, and the drop‑down leg adds vertical support when the rail is down. For a small ensuite used by a wheelchair user, a fold‑away rail lets you transfer easily and then stow the rail out of the way.

Maximum rated load tells you how much force the rail is tested to support; most of the Croydex range is rated between 51–100kg, which suits general mobility assistance, while two models are rated 101–150kg for heavier duty use. If the primary user needs strong support or you’re specifying for a care setting, opt for one of the higher rated rails. Always pair a higher rated rail with appropriate fixings to get the intended performance.

Concealed fixings, offered on seven of the Croydex models, give a cleaner, more modern look and help protect fixing points from steam and corrosion, making them a good choice for a polished bathroom design. Exposed fixings are easier to visualise and are sometimes preferred in institutional settings where quick inspection is useful. If you want a subtle chrome finish that blends with taps and fittings, concealed fixings are usually the calmest choice.

Think about where you will use the rail — shorter rails (around 300–380mm) work well beside a toilet, medium lengths (450–600mm) suit next to baths or inside showers, and longer rails (680mm) give more hand‑hold along a wall. Most Croydex rails have a shallow projection of 1–100mm so they sit close to the wall and don’t obstruct movement, while a couple of models offer much larger projection (801–900mm) if you need extra reach or space for transfers. Match the rail length to the reach and body position you or the user will most often take.
