Browse our incredible range of showers today

Showers come in a wide variety of styles and shapes, but, in essence, there are only two distinct kinds. Mixer showers which take hot and cold water from the domestic hot water system and blend them together to give you your perfect temperature. Electric showers take cold water and heat it up with electricity, providing a constant source of warm water.

Shower Type

Electric Shower: Requires cold water only. Water is heated by an electrical heating element for hot water on demand.

Mixer Shower: Includes bar mixer, concealed mixer and exposed mixer. These showers require hot and cold feeds that are mixed and differ by installation style.

Digital Shower: Requires hot and cold feeds. Uses a digital thermostat for precise temperature and flow control.

Smart Shower: Same requirements as a digital shower, but with smartphone and smart home control.

Power Shower: Requires hot and cold feeds and includes an integrated pump to boost water pressure.

Shower Tower: Requires hot and cold feeds into a single tower unit. Includes luxuries such as body jets.

Outlets

1 Outlet: One shower head that's either fixed or attached to an adjustable riser rail.

2 Outlets: Two shower heads, one wall or ceiling mounted and one handset, that can be used independently or sometimes simultaneously.

3 Outlets: Three shower functions, typically a shower head, a handset, and an additional feature such as body jets or a bath filler, which can be operated separately or in combination.

Water Feed

Ceiling Fed: Ceiling fed showers use pipework that comes through your ceiling. They can be used with one or two shower heads.

Wall Fed: Wall fed showers use pipework that comes through the wall behind the shower. They can also be used with one or two shower heads and are easier to retrofit.

Supply Type

High Pressure / Combi: These systems use a combination boiler which heats mains pressure water and sends it around your home.

Low Pressure / Gravity Fed: These systems usually use a cold water tank in the loft and a hot water cylinder in an airing cupboard.

Temperature Control

Manual: Must be independently supplied with hot and cold water feeds. Temperature and flow are controlled by the user.

Thermostatic: Mixes hot and cold water to selected temperature and adjusts to changes in pressure or temperature of the water supply.

Microprocessor: Commonly used in digital and smart showers. Automatically controls flow and temperature.

Pressure Stabilised: Keeps temperature and pressure consistent. Stops spikes when water is used by other appliances.

Installation Type

Exposed: Pipework, showerheads, and controls are on display.

Concealed: Pipework is hidden behind the wall for a minimalistic look.

How do I decide between an electric shower and a mixer shower for my bathroom?

Look at your water supplies: a mixer shower needs both hot and cold feeds from your domestic system, while an electric shower only needs a cold feed and heats the water itself. If you have a combi boiler or mains high-pressure system you can use mixer, digital or thermostatic options for a powerful, balanced flow; if you don’t have a hot feed in the shower area or want independent hot water, an electric shower is the practical choice. Electric showers are often more compact and cheaper to install, whereas mixer and smart/digital showers give easier temperature control and more styling options like rain heads or dual outlets.

What kW electric shower should I choose and what cable size will I need?

Match the kW to your desired flow and your house wiring. For example, an 8.5kW shower typically needs 6mm² cable for runs up to 18m and 10mm² for 18–35m; most 9–10.5kW models require a 10mm² supply; for runs longer than 35m an electrician should assess voltage drop and you may need 16mm². Pick a higher kW if you want stronger flow, but ensure your consumer unit and cable size can safely deliver it.

Do I need a pump or a power shower if my water pressure is low?

If you’re on a low-pressure gravity system with a cold tank and hot cylinder, a power shower with an integrated pump or a pumped electric shower will boost flow and give a noticeably stronger shower. Remember power showers and pumped models still require both hot and cold feeds unless specified as pumped electric, which may heat from a cold feed. If you have a combi boiler or high-pressure system you probably won’t need a pump.

What are the practical benefits of thermostatic, digital and smart showers?

Thermostatic showers mix hot and cold to hold the temperature steady and often include pressure stabilisation to stop sudden spikes, making them a safe choice for children or vulnerable users. Digital showers use a microprocessor for precise temperature and flow control and can offer multiple outlets; smart showers add smartphone or smart-home control so you can preset profiles or start the shower from your phone. If you value simple, reliable temperature control pick thermostatic; choose digital or smart if you want exact control, multiple outlets and tech features.

Should I choose a concealed or exposed installation, and how many outlets do I need?

Concealed installations hide pipework behind the wall for a minimal, modern look, while exposed fittings sit on the wall and are much easier to retrofit. One outlet (a handset) suits small en-suites or where you need flexibility; two outlets (rainfall plus handset) give a spa-like experience and work well in family bathrooms; three outlets add extras such as body jets or a bath filler for a luxury shower tower setup. If you’re renovating and want a clean finish, go concealed and if you’re retrofitting or on a tighter budget, exposed is simpler and usually cheaper.
