A typical inset ceramic basin with a small overflow requires a slotted pop up or slotted 1 1/4" waste, while a rimless countertop washbowl works best with an unslotted push button or pop up waste.

Push button wastes operate by pressing the top to open and close, they give a neat, modern look and are easy to use. Pop up wastes also seal the basin but are often lifted or toggled manually and are available in both slotted and unslotted versions; they suit traditional and contemporary schemes. Flip top wastes offer a simple, low-profile plug you flip with your finger and are a practical choice for everyday use; for a designer finish you might select a push button in chrome or brushed brass, while pop up in gloss white blends with a white ceramic basin.

A 1 1/4" waste is the standard size for most UK basins and traps, so it will fit the majority of installations. The range includes slotted 1 1/4" wastes specifically labelled to match standard fittings. Before buying, check your existing trap thread or measure the waste diameter to be certain, but in most cases the 1 1/4" option will be compatible.
