How do I choose the right bath type and shape for my bathroom layout?

Start with how you use the space: if you want both a bath and shower in one footprint, an L-shape or P-shape shower bath (many in 1700 x 855mm sizes) or a straight shower bath with a screen works well. If you have a larger bathroom and want a focal piece, a freestanding bath (many around 1500–1700mm) creates that look. For tight alcoves a single-ended straight bath (1600–1700mm long and 700–750mm wide) is space-efficient, and a corner bath suits awkward or compact rooms where you want to save wall length. Match the bath shape to how you'll use it daily rather than to trend alone.

Which bath material should I pick, acrylic, steel, resin or copper, and why?

Acrylic is the most common choice here and for good reason: it's lightweight, warm to the touch and easy to repair, so you'll see many acrylic baths in 1700 x 700mm sizes. Steel baths are harder wearing and thinner but feel cooler, which suits a long-lasting, traditional finish. Mineral resin or solid-surface baths give a stone-like feel and excellent heat retention for a spa finish, while copper is a premium option that brings character and natural patina. Think about weight, heat retention and budget: acrylic for practicality, resin/solid-surface for luxury, steel for durability and copper for a statement.

Do I need a side or end panel, and when should I get a bath screen included?

If your bath sits in an alcove you will need a side panel for the long side; if it's in a corner you'll want a side and end panel so both exposed sides are neat. Many tubs are sold without panels so check the panel option when ordering, include side & end sets. For bathing plus showering, choose a shower bath or a straight bath bundle that includes a screen show screens included to avoid leaks; an L-shaped shower bath often comes with a screen and side panel for a ready-made shower-bath solution.

What's the difference between single-ended and double-ended baths, and which is more practical?

A single-ended bath has the taps and waste at one end so one person lounges with their back to the wall, which saves space and is ideal for alcoves. A double-ended bath is symmetrical with taps usually in the middle and sloped ends both sides, making it more comfortable if two people might share the bath or you want a more luxurious look. Both types come in common lengths (1600–1700mm), so pick double-ended for a centre-piece in a larger room and single-ended for efficient use of a smaller bathroom.

What bath size should I choose for comfort if I'm tall or have a small bathroom?

Measure your room first, then match comfort needs: the most plentiful lengths are 1600–1700mm and widths typically 700–750mm, which suit average heights and standard spaces. If you're tall, aim for an 1800 x 800mm bath or at least an 1700 x 800mm so your legs won't feel cramped. For a small bathroom, a 1600 x 700mm or an L-shaped shower bath (1700 x 855mm with shower screen) gives showering space without taking too much floor area.
