How do I choose the right sink material for my kitchen?

Match material to how you use the kitchen: stainless steel is the most affordable and versatile, with typical bowl depths around 200–299 mm and good impact resistance for pans. Granite composite (eg. Rangemaster Topaz) gives a matt, coloured surface in shades like Charcoal or Arctic White that resists stains and heat but can show limescale. Fireclay and ceramic (Eastlake, RAK) offer the traditional, glossy look for Belfast or Butler sinks and are extremely scratch‑resistant, though heavier and more likely to chip at edges. Choose stainless for practicality, granite composite for colour and warmth, and fireclay/ceramic for a classic farmhouse feel.

Which bowl configuration, single, 1.5 or double, will suit my cooking habits and space?

If you have a compact kitchen or prefer maximal basin space, a single bowl gives one large uninterrupted sink. A 1.5 bowl adds a shallower prep or rinsing bowl beside the main bowl, useful for veg prep while a pan soaks. Two bowls let you wash and rinse or separate tasks, handy for families who cook often or use large pans. Look at sink lengths and cabinet space too, larger double or 1.5 bowls commonly sit in 1000+ mm lengths, while singles suit 500–600 mm widths.

What's the difference between inset and undermount sinks for the look and care of your worktop?

Inset sinks sit on top of the worktop and are widely available, so they're easy to pair with laminate or standard worktops. Undermount sinks sit beneath the surface for a seamless, modern look and are shown in granite and stainless options like the Sauber undermount range, but they work best with solid surfaces such as stone or quartz. Cleaning is simpler with undermounts because crumbs sweep straight into the bowl, while inset edges can trap grime unless sealed well.

Do I need a drainer, and how do I choose left or right hand?

A drainer is useful if you hand‑wash often or need a place to rest wet dishes, while many modern kitchens opt for bowl‑only sinks for a minimalist look. If you do take a drainer, check whether it's left, right or reversible, our range shows many left or right options, plus a handful left‑only or right‑only. Choose the drainer side based on nearby appliances: if your dishwasher sits to the left, a left‑hand drainer makes loading easier; if you mostly use a prep bowl, you might skip the drainer and use a 1.5 bowl instead.

Will my tap and waste fit the sink I want?

Check the individual product details for pre‑drilled tap holes and whether a waste is included, several granite and ceramic sinks are included in our range "with waste". Some sinks are sold as inset or over/under counter versions and may not have tap holes drilled, so you'll need to match a tap that suits the hole configuration or a separate tap ledge. If you need filtered or three‑way taps, look for sinks filtered as "3 way fit" in the filters so the hole layout accommodates them.
