Larger-format tiles such as 300 x 600mm or 600 x 600mm cut down grout lines and visually open up tight spaces, especially when laid horizontally to widen a narrow room. Rectified-edge tiles let you lay tiles closer together, further reducing the grid effect so surfaces look sleeker. Keep the colour palette aligned: use a patterned tile that shares a dominant tone with the marble base so the two read as a coordinated scheme. Varying scale helps too, big, calm marble surfaces let a small-scale patterned tile sing without overwhelming the room.
