What's the difference between back-to-wall, close coupled and wall-hung toilets, and which might suit your bathroom best?

Close coupled toilets have the cistern sitting directly on the pan for a classic, compact look and are often the most economical choice, options include the Ceramica and Affine close coupled ranges. Back-to-wall toilets sit flush against a furniture unit or boxed-in cistern, giving a neat, continuous cupboard run; many back-to-wall units are available in a standard 500mm width to match vanity furniture. Wall-hung toilets free up floor space and make cleaning easier but need a concealed frame and cistern. If you want a streamlined furniture run, pick back-to-wall; for a traditional, simple swap, close coupled is fine; choose wall-hung if you want the modern, floor-free look.

What is a rimless toilet and should you choose one for hygiene and cleaning?

Rimless toilets remove the inner rim lip so water flows evenly across the bowl, making them much easier to clean and reducing hidden bacteria, 115 rimless models are included in our range in the collection. They suit modern bathrooms and pair well with soft-close seats and push-button concealed flushes for a sleek finish. If hygiene and low maintenance matter to you, a rimless pan is a clear advantage; if you prefer a traditional appearance, a boxed or standard rim option is also available.

My bathroom is very small, which toilet types and sizes work best in tight spaces?

Look for short-projection pans and compact pans: there are around 40 short-projection models and many compact close-coupled toilets such as the Ceramica Compact. Wall-hung toilets also visually free the floor and can reduce perceived bulk, while 2-in-1 toilets with a sink on top (the Affine Tivoli or Artis sink-on-top units) save wall space by combining basin and pan. Check total projection figures, models with projections around 500–540mm suit tighter rooms, whereas larger projections exceed 600mm.

What does "comfort height" mean and who benefits from it?

Comfort-height pans are taller than standard pans to make sitting down and standing up easier; our range lists comfort-height as a specific option and several products like the Ceramica Arles Comfort Height and Affine Tivoli comfort variants. They're useful if you're taller, have limited mobility or simply prefer a higher seat, but they may feel high for young children. If mobility or knee strain is a concern, a comfort-height toilet is a sensible, practical choice.

Are soft-close seats included, and when might you need to buy a seat separately?

Most toilets here come with soft-close seats, 198 models are included in our range with soft-close, so you'll usually get the quieter, gentler seat as standard. However, some products in our range are for pans only or for replacement pans (pan only or pan & seat categories appear), in which case you'll need to add a seat separately; check the product's "components included" field. If you have a specific finish or want a premium quick-release seat, ordering the seat separately gives you more choice.
